What an exciting last day of the Travelers Championship, with Englishman Justin Rose falling apart on the final day with a 75 to allow a 3 way playoff between Bubba Watson, Corey Paven and Scott Verplank. Bubba Watson nearly took it out on the first hole with an amazing approach shot just inches away from going in for eagle. Corey Paven was first to exit on the first playoff hole, before Watson clinched the win after Verplank missed a par putt to carry on.

Has been a great few months for lefthand golfers worldwide, and we are all looking forward to the 2010 British Open.

Congratulations to Phil Mickelson, the greatest left-hand golfer of all time! Phil wins his third green jacket after beating englishman Lee Westward by 3 strokes. Phil has overcome some very tough times recently after his wife Amy and then his mother were diagnosed with breast cancer nearly a year ago, which made it an even greater victory for him seeing his wife waiting for him on the 18th green.

Phil started the day 1 stroke behind Westward, who was looking like he was going to take it after 3 outstanding days of golf, but Phil had a string of 5 amazing birdies, but will be remembered for the ‘impossible’ on the par 5 13th, his 2nd shot 6 iron from under the trees more than 200 yards, after his long time caddy ‘bones’ told him to lay up. Phil stuck the shot within 4 feet, only to miss the deserving eagle, but it was this shot, that I think took Phil to his 3rd green jacket. When Phil has that look in his eyes, that hop in his step, there is nobody that can get in his way, what a great last day of golf it was!

I have been playing with these clubs for over a month now, and so far, I like them, they have slightly more distance than my last irons by a good club length, the feel isn’t as ’soft’ as I thought they would be, but I am pleased with them. One issue I have is workability, I am finding it quite hard to play power fades and draws, they tend to push and pull instead, which proves how forgiving they are when your swing isn’t quite working, but when you need to play a fade around a tree, it can be difficult to get it all they way around.

I also filled the standard set, which only comes 4 iron down to SW with the 3 Iron and GW and AW, I am really glad I got these, the wedges have been invaluable for those, hmmmm, is it a SW or half PW, you can really attack a full swing in those in between distances. The 3 iron has quite a low ball flight, well, for my swing anyway, but am getting around 220m out of it.

The grips are a little slippery for my liking, so they will be changed shortly.

All in all, these clubs have been a welcomed addition to my bag, if you have any questions about these irons, please get in touch.

Happy Golfing!

Australian golfer Geoff Ogilvy has won the 2008 Australian PGA Championship with 14-under par, 2 stokes ahead of fellow Australian Mathew Goggin.

Thankfully the rain held off on the final round to see a scheduled finish after round one was interrupted due to bad weather and half of the field had a 4.30am start on Friday.

The best lefty of the tournament was Tim Wilkinson of New Zealand, who had a fantastic opening round of 66 to lead the championship on the first day. However, a 72 in round 2 and 73 Sunday day didn’t help the lefties chances, and his putter decided not to play after the first round, narrowly missing a bunch of birdie putts. If Tim can get the putter working, look out Australian Open!
